I remember as a child, my mother had an
antique Singer sewing machine sitting in the corner of the living room. I used to play underneath it, on the treadle. There was a spare spindle in the wooden drawer.
I wish we had kept that
antique Singer sewing machine in the family. Unfortunately, it was sold to a collector when I was about 10 years old. Still, some of my earliest memories of home and family contained that old sewing machine. Even though we never used it in my lifetime, it was a part of the family history that I would have liked to preserve.
My children have never seen a
vintage Singer sewing machine like that one. Our new machine has a plastic case and a digital display, and is much more compact and speedy. You sure can't beat wood and cast iron for that solid antique feel those
old Singer sewing machines had, though.
I will always remembr that
antique Singer sewing machine and my time playing around it .
